Breakfast Run 11th June 2017

Five machines set off at 7 am in cool dry weather from the lay-by on the A428 close to junction 11 of the M40: Derek Morris’ ‘47 Ariel Ng, Alan Bailey’s ‘56 Ariel Fieldmaster, Malcolm Griffin’s ‘59 BSA Golden Flash, Ted Robinson’s ‘80 Honda CD200 and Andrew Rae’s ‘91 MZ 301E. The route took us across to Hampton Lucy (where we saw someone walking dressed in what looked like a Monks habit), passing Wellesbourne, then through Ettington along the A322 up Sunrising – practise for the following Sundays’ Banbury Run for two of us, albeit on more modern machines. At the top we turned off through Edge Hill, down past CAD Kineton into Gaydon, onto Pimple Lane, by-passing Knightcote and into Bishops Itchington. Then across onto the Fosse Way, up to the Long Itchington turn, down Snowford Hill, turning left for Birdingbury, thinking “back here in 4 week’s time for the Birdingbury Festival”.  Never get chance to get bored! Then through Bourton on Dunsmore and finishing at the Three Horseshoes at Princethorpe, having covered a very pleasant 46 miles in an hour and three quarters.

The landlady Ann must have been watching out for us – as we rode into the car park, she ran out to arrange our parking for a photo shoot, and then sat us down for well earned breakfast of fried eggs, sausage, bacon, baked beans, hash browns and mushrooms, together with toast and lots of strong coffee. Those who didn’t show up missed a treat!

Our thanks go to Harry Wiles for the route, Alan Bailey for standing in for Harry to do the signing on and our hosts Ann and Geoff at the Three Horse Shoes for their hospitality.
