The Chairman’s Social 17th July 2013.

Our Editor put a piece in the magazine recently that he enthused about an event he had done where you find your own way to a set venue and enjoy the company of other likeminded people, we in the Warwickshire section run a number of these events every year and have done so for over 30 years, this being one of them. On a sweltering evening I set off on the bike, it was too hot for Fran to want to get her riding gear on so she followed on with our daughter in the car, I would guess with the air conditioning on.

Photos.

Riders, passengers and visitors enjoy the spectacle of nearly 50 bikes on display.

I arrived early at the Blue Lias, the venue for the evening, on arrival I found there were two others that had beaten me there. I advertise the event on the pub noticeboard a month in advance so the locals are aware of it, a steady stream of bikes arrived from 7.00pm until we had thirty eight members bikes ranging from a 1903 Humberette that Richard Woodcock had borrowed from a friend to 1980’s machines on display, including seven vintage bikes, there were also around six visitors on eligible machines and five on modern bikes, in addition we had a number of pillion passengers and a few members who had turned up in cars.
When it was time for the buffet to be served it was difficult to get people inside to collect it and many of them took theirs outside to eat and who can blame them. The evening was a great success and I have possibly recruited four new members.
Our thanks go to Brian, wife Margaret and their staff at the Blue Lias for the hospitality and a good buffet.
Harry and Fran Wiles
