Autumn Run

“Hardly Autumn, it still felt like Summer for the last run before Boxing Day. A beautiful day, perfect for riding, and 29 riders signed on at Kenilworth Rugby Club. Two vintage bikes, Derek Morris’ ‘28 Matchless and Frank Parker’s ‘29 Panther, one solitary pre war machine, Roland Robinson’s ‘34 Cammy Square Four Ariel, with all the remainder being a mix of British, Japanese, Italian and German post war machines.

The route took us out through Stoneleigh, Bubbenhall, Weston under Wetherley, Eathorpe, Princethorpe, Birdingbury, Grandborough, Woolscott, Barby, Kilsby, Ashby St Legers, Braunston, Willoughby, Grandborough Fields, Leamington Hastings, Birdingbury and on to the finish at the Friendly Inn at Frankton, a total of 40 miles.

Our thanks go to Nigel and Debbie at the Friendly
Inn for their hospitality.”

I suspect a typo on the route sheet  (R instead of L) may have qualified me for the Golden Brick award. I heard people at the finish saying there were bikes going in all directions at Weston under Wetherley, so I checked the route card and spotted the mistake. Oops. I then apologised to a number of riders for putting them through an initiative test – some passed it without any problem because they followed the sign instead of the turn instruction!

Our thanks go to Alan Bailey for setting the route, taking the photos and doing the report, we also thank our hosts Nigel and Deb at the Friendly Inn Frankton for their hospitality at the end of the run.
